CARROLLTON, Ga. - A four-run sixth inning erased an early deficit and paved the way for the Georgia Southwestern baseball team's 5-3 win at West Georgia on Wednesday evening.

The Hurricanes improve to 7-19 after putting back-to-back wins together for the first time this season. West Georgia falls to 12-18.

The Wolves struck first in the ballgame when JoJo Underwood singled home Shaquille Jackson in the third inning. UWG pushed across two more runs in the fourth to open its lead to 3-0.

GSW was held to three hits through the first five innings, but things changed in the sixth. Josh Sanders opened the frame with a single to center field. After a pair of UWG errors and an infield pop out, Neal Chambless drove in the first Hurricane run with a single through the right side. Corey Benson followed with a RBI single through the left side and two runs scored on the next at bat when Les Cromer reached first on an infield single that drew a throwing error to advance the runners.

Stephen Eldridge added an insurance run in the seventh inning when his single to left brought home Evan Alderman.

GSW relief pitcher Zach Smith (1-3) picked up the win after closing the game with 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Smith held UWG to one hit and struck out four. Hurricane starter Earl Dupree threw the opening 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs - two earned - while walking two and striking out a batter.

UWG starter Chris Burdette (0-2) took the loss after being charged with four unearned runs in 5 2/3 innings on the hill. GSW collected six hits off Burdette. He walked three and struck out three. Ashley Claxton and A.J. Sunstrom covered the final 3 1/3 innings for the Wolves.

Cromer led the Hurricanes at the plate with a three-hit night. Eldridge and Benson added two hits apiece.

Underwood was the only UWG batter to finish with multiple hits. He went 3-for-4.

Southwestern returns home to host No. 2 Lander on Saturday.
