Baseball 2021

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Third-year head coach Josh McDonald and the Georgia Southwestern baseball team is gearing up for their 2021 season with a full slate of 40 games. The Hurricanes will play 20 home games this year at Hurricane Stadium, including the first seven games to open their season.

GSW opens their season Feb. 5-6 as they will host the University of Tampa. They then will open up Peach Belt Conference play when Flagler College comes to town Feb. 12-13. Albany St. makes the short trip on Feb. 17 before the Hurricanes hit the road for a trip to Young Harris Feb. 19-20 and USC Aiken, Feb. 26-27. 

UNG comes to town March 6-7 before GSW prepares for a midweek game with Valdosta St. on March 9. Newcomer Claflin welcomes GSW to town March 12-13 as GSW returns home March 20-21 to host UNC Pembroke before completing the home-and-home at Valdosta St. on March 23. The Hurricanes will close out March on the road at Augusta March 27-28. 

In April, GSW opens on the road at Georgia College April 2-3 before taking the short trip to play to play Columbus State April 9-10. Lander comes to town April 17-18 then GSW takes the short trip to play Albany St. in thier last midweek game of the season on April 20. The Hurricanes close the season at home April 23-24 as they invite Francis Marion to town. 

Prior to the cancelation of all sports competition in March, GSW was 8-12, 5-7 in conference play. The Hurricanes had posted 75 runs, a batting average of .218 with only three home runs thus far. Junior first baseman Anthony Angelino was leading the Hurricanes with a .299 batting average, 23 hits and 13 RBIs. Former PBC Pitcher of the Year Tucker Smith along with Dalton Cameron each had two wins from the mound, with a 2.56 and 3.95 ERA, respectively. Harrison Timberlake had one save with the second lowest ERA on the team sitting at 3.09 while Cole Garrett led the team with three saves.
