Canes go toe-to-toe with The Citadel, lose in final seconds

GSW missed a potential game winning shot with four seconds remaining and The Citadel held on for a 69-68 exhibition victory on Sunday evening in Charleston, S.C.  

GSW newcomer Marcus Scott led the Hurricanes with 28 points. Damayrius Adside added 15 points and five assists in his GSW debut and Mobley finished with 13 points.

The Hurricanes offense started strong, hitting their first three attempts from beyond the arc to take an eight point lead (13-5), the biggest of the night for either team, early in the first half. Strong outside shooting kept the 'Canes close throughout.  GSW led by five with 5:15 to play.  The Hurricanes finished the game connecting on 61 percent from three-point range (11-18).  

Demetrius Nelson scored 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the host Bulldogs.  The Citadel, an NCAA Division I member, held a 31-18 rebound advantage.  

The Hurricanes open the 2008-09 regular season on Novemeber 15 against Puerto Rico-Cayey in Valdosta, Ga. and return to Americus the next evening for the home opener against Carver Bible. 

As part of the "Home Opener. Open House." promotion, admission is free for everyone against Carver and kids will have the opportunity to receive a free team photo, get autographs and dunk on a lowered hoop after the game.
