'Canes struggle against Florida Memorial

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern trailed by 15 points at the half and was unable to recover, as Florida Memorial defeated the Hurricanes, 81-60, Friday evening at the Valdosta State P.E. Complex.

Senior 6-7 forward Chris Rawls led the Hurricanes with 19 points, four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Evan Mobley added 15 points and five rebounds.

Matthew Rolle and Roderick Davis led Florida Memorial (1-3) with 22 points apiece. Rolle pulled down six rebounds. Davis added five assists. 

Antwan Baggs' three-pointer with 9:57 left in the first half gave FMU their first 15-point advantage, 25-10. The Lions led, 42-27, at the break.

A Mobley three-pointer at the 14:53 mark in the second stanza brought the Hurricanes within 11 points at 49-38; the closest GSW would get the rest of the way.

Florida Memorial led by as many as 29 in the second half before GSW closed out the game with a 16-8 run.

The Lions connected on 39-of-52 from the floor in the game (54.2 percent) and were perfect from beyond the arc in the second half (5-for-5). The Hurricanes went 20-for-46 (43.5 percent). GSW won the battle on the boards, 34-31.  
 
Southwestern (0-2) returns home to play Albany State on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
