Despite shooting 13.6 percent in the first half, the Georgia Southwestern men's baskeball team trailed Columbus State by only four points in the final two minutes before falling 68-56 at the Lumpkin Center on Wednesday evening.

Hurricane shooters were ice cold for the first 25 minutes of the game. GSW was 3-for-22 from the floor in the opening half and the shooting woes spilled into the beginning of the second stanza as the 'Canes went 1-for-9. With 15:04 left in the game, Southwestern had a 12.9 field goal percentage (4-for-31).

Even with all of their struggles from the floor, the Hurricanes defict peaked at 21 points.

An Evan Mobley three-point basket started a GSW comeback with 15 minutes left in the game. Over the next 11 minutes, Southwestern managed to chip away at the CSU lead, eventually pulling within 13 points with 4:03 on the clock.

The Hurricane offense sparked with a three-point basket and a pair of converted three-point plays to go on an 11-2 run and bring GSW within four points (57-53) with 1:56 remaining.

GSW would manage one field goal the rest of the way as CSU improved to 12-13 overall and 6-10 in the Peach Belt.  

Mobley scored a season-high 24 points to lead the Hurricanes. Chris Rawls posted his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Lamar Williams collected 17 points for Columbus State. Chris Telesford matched Rawls with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Southwestern finished the game with a 29.6 field goal percentage (16 of 54). The Cougars shot 42.6 percent (23 of 54).

The Hurricanes had a better shooting percentage from beyond the arc (31.8) than inside the three-point stripe (28.1).

GSW committed eight more turnovers (18-10) than Columbus State and trailed 23-2 in bench points.

Southwestern (7-19, 3-13) closes the 2009-10 season on Saturday at Clayton State. Tip is at 3:30 p.m.
