AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team dropped its conference opener, 75-72 in overtime, on Monday to No. 13 USC AIken at the Storm Dome.

The Hurricanes had a chance to win with the final possession of regulation and two chances to tie with the final possession of overtime, but came up just short in their upset bid.

The opening four minutes on Monday were controlled by GSW as the Hurricanes jumped to a 10-4 lead.

USC Aiken (9-2, 3-1 PBC) held the lead momentarily at 16-14 before the Hurricanes went on a 9-2 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 25-18.

USCA managed to tie the ballgame once again (30-30) before GSW took a 37-33 lead into the halftime break.

The Pacers outscored GSW 17-7 over the opening 10 minutes of the second to take a six-point lead, their largest of the night.

GSW eventually erased the deficit. With 52 seconds remaining in regulation, the game was tied at 62-62.

Bobby Glover hit a clutch three-point basket with 19 ticks on the clock to put the Hurricanes ahead, 65-62, but, after a timeout, Byron Faison answered for USCA with a three-pointer to tie the game at 65-65.

GSW was able to get a pair of shots off before time expired, but could not connect to win the game.

Kevin Willis scored seven of USCA's 10 points in the extra period to lead the Pacers to the victory.

GSW had two three-point attempts bounce out in the final five seconds as the Hurricanes looked to send the contest into a second overtime session.

Trayce Macon scored 27 points to lead GSW scorers. Phillip Brown added 19 points and 10 rebounds for his second-consecutive double-double.

Faison matched Macon's 27 points for USCA and teammate Michael Technow scored 14. Willis chipped in 13, including the seven points in overtime.

The USCA bench outscored GSW's reserves, 22-12, and the Pacers held a 43-27 rebounding advantage.

GSW forced USCA into nine more turnovers (16-7).

In a back-and-forth affair, there were 14 lead changes.

The Hurricanes (6-3, 0-1) return to the hardwood on Thursday for an 8 p.m. non-conference game at West Alabama.
