Hot-shooting Hurricanes improve to 16-4

AMERICUS - Freshman Colin Slotter scored a game-high 23 points to lead a hot-shooting Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team past Montevallo, 68-55, on Saturday evening in the Storm Dome. The Hurricanes shot 53.3 percent from the field en route to their 10th win in 11 games.

The first half was close throughout as neither team could build a lead larger than six points.

GSW took a 30-27 advantage into the halftime break.

The opening nine minutes of the second period proved to be more of the same back-and-forth momentum.

Evan Mobley converted a three-point play with just over 11 minutes remaining to give the 'Canes the lead 44-43. Southwestern would not trail again.

The Hurricanes went on a 22-6 run over the next eight minutes and cruised to their 16th win of the season.

Phillip Brown recorded his ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Antoine Davis led Montevallo with 12 points.

The Falcons (13-7, 6-5 PBC) shot 39.6 percent from the floor and struggled at the free throw line, connecting on 13 of 28 attempts (46.4 percent).

GSW travels to Armstrong Atlantic on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
