SAVANNAH - Evan Mobley, Trayce Macon and Matt Shaw fouled out; Phillip Brown, Talmadge Bell and Bobby Glover had four fouls and when the dust settled, Armstrong Atlantic had defeated No. 16 Georgia Southwestern, 86-80, Thursday evening in Savannah.

The Hurricanes, called for 32 fouls against AASU, came into the contest averaging 18 fouls a game in Peach Belt Conference play. The Pirates were whistled for 23 fouls on Thursday. 

In a game that went back-and-forth all night, the lead changed hands 13 times.

GSW, which led three times in the first half, trailed by as many as seven points, the last time coming at 40-33 with 2:23 remaining in the opening period, but a 7-1 run made it 41-40 at the break.

Armstrong, currently ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region, opened up a 10-point lead midway through the second half before the 'Canes scored 11 unanswered points to grab the advantage, 68-67, with 6:04 to play.

The lead changed hands again, before a Mobley free throw at the 4:22 mark gave GSW its last lead of the night, 71-70.

AASU (14-8, 8-6 PBC) hit 6 of 8 free throws over the final 35 seconds to close out the ballgame.

GSW shot 48.1 percent from floor and 40.9 from beyond the arc, both figures above season averages. Armstrong connected on 44.4 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from three-point land.

Brown and Colin Slotter led the Hurricanes offensively, both finishing with 18 points. Brown added 13 rebounds to secure his 10th double-double of the season and sixth in his last seven games. Bell added 15 points and Macon scored 13.

Armstrong's Jesse Wheeler led all scorers with 22 points. Chris Edwards added 16 off the bench.

Southwestern (16-5, 9-3) travels to Flagler on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
