AMERICUS – The inaugural NCAA Division II men's and women's basketball statistical reports came out on Monday and the Georgia Southwestern men's and women's basketball teams were recognized among the nation's best.

Of 278 D-II men's basketball programs, the Hurricanes rank 20th in scoring margin with a mark of plus-17 points. The Hurricanes field goal percentage of 51.1 ranks 19th, three-point field goal percentage of 42.6 ranks 11th and free throw percentage of 76.4 is good enough for 20th in the nation. The Hurricanes also ranked 11th in rebound margin at plus-10.7 rebounds per game.

Individually, several Hurricanes are among the best in the nation. Amongst the top 500 players, junior forward Phillip Brown (Jonesboro, Ga.) is second nationally in field goal percentage at 76.3. The nation's best field goal percentage is 76.8. Junior guard Talmadge Bell (Cincinatti, Ohio) ranks 20th in three-point field goal percentage (47.5) and 34th in 3-pt field goals per game (3.2). In rebounds per game, senior Trayce Macon's (St. Petersburg, Fla.) average of 9.2 ranks 35th nationally.

In the D-II women's national statistics report, the Lady Hurricanes rank 39th in three-point field goal percentage (37.4) and 23rd in blocks per game (4.7).

Individually, out of the top 500 players, junior forward Cierra Duhart (Hawkinsville, Ga.) ranks 11th in blocks per game (2.9). In assist-to-turnover ratio, junior guard Tania Walters (Toronto, Ontario) ranks 65th with a margin of plus-1.69.

The GSW men (4-2) will be back in action on Dec. 29 against Lenoir Rhyne at the Lander University New Year's classic. The Hurricanes will return home Jan. 3 to take on USC Aiken to open up Peach Belt play at 7:30 p.m.

The GSW women (4-3) travel to Truett-McConnell on Wednesday and Young Harris on Thursday. The Lady Hurricanes also return home on Jan. 3 for their first Peach Belt matchup against USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m.
