TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes wrapped up their exhibition portion of their schedule with a visit to Florida State University. Their matchup against the Seminoles was GSW's second Division I opponent in as many years. Florida State would score the game's first seven points and never look back on their way to the 86-41 victory.
A Phillip Brown dunk off an assist from Colin Slotter got the Hurricanes on the board two minutes and eleven seconds into the game to make it seven to two. GSW would go another two minutes before scoring again on a Colin Slotter three-pointer.
The teams would exchange baskets for the next four minutes. At the 11:32 mark Matt Shaw was whistled for the sixth GSW team foul with Shaw and Phillip Brown each recording three of them. Shaw and Brown each only played five minutes in the first half because of the fouls. FSU would go on a 25-7 run to take the 45-19 halftime lead.
Colin Slotter led all GSW scorers with nine first half points. The Marietta native was supported by senior Evan Mobley and junior Milos Kleut with four points each. FSU's Bernard James led all scorers with ten first half points.
The Seminoles had the rebounding edge (17-13) and forced GSW into twelve turnovers. GSW shot 31.3% from the field to FSU's 59.4%.
Florida State would open up the second half with a similar run (11-5) to the one they had to open the game. The run was punctuated by Phillip Brown picking up his fourth foul with 15:28 remaining.
The Crimson & Gold lead would hover in the thirties for most of the second half. Florida State's highest lead of the night would be 47 points on the way to the 86-41 victory.
The Hurricanes finished shooting 28.9% on 11-38 from the field and shot even worse from beyond the arc with 18.8% on 3-16 shooting.
Evan Mobley led the GSW offense with 14 points. He was supported by nine points from Colin Slotter who also tallied four rebounds and an assist. Phillip Brown finished with eight points, five rebounds, one block and a steal in less than 25 minutes of play.
FSU's Michael Snaer led all scorers with 15 points. He was one of three Seminoles to score in double digits. He was part of an offensive attack that shot 52.7% (30-57) from the field, and they out-rebounded the Hurricanes 37-23. The Seminole defensive pressure forced GSW into 23 turnovers.
Georgia Southwestern will begin its regular season with their home opener against Trinity Baptist on Tuesday, November 15th at 7:30 pm in the Storm Dome.
