Brooks Named Peach Belt Conference Player Of The Week

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern senior forward Johathan Brooks has been named the Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.

Brooks averaged a double-double with 12.5 points and 16 rebounds in two games for the 18th-ranked Hurricanes while adding a total of five assists and four blocks. He opened with 11 points and a game-high 14 boards in a win over UNC Pembroke on Friday, then had 14 points and a game-high 18 rebounds in a loss to Francis Marion on Sunday afternoon.

The Macon, Ga. native currently leads the league in rebounding with 11.4 per game which ties him for ninth in NCAA Division II. His eight double-doubles ties for 11th in D-II. Brooks is also fourth in the PBC in blocked shots.

He becomes the program's ninth Peach Belt POTW since GSW joined the NCAA in 2006-07 and the second this season as Daryl Davis took home the award Dec. 9.

Brooks and the Hurricanes travel to Montevallo on Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. contest.
