Men's Hoops Adds 7-Foot Transfer From St. Bonaventure

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head men's basketball coach Mike Leeder has announced the addition of Matthias Runs to the Hurricanes roster for the 2014-15 season.

Originally from Hilversum, Netherlands, Runs comes to GSW after spending the past two seasons at NCAA Division I and Atlantic 10 member St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.

"We feel very fortunate to add a player with the size and experience of Matthias," said Leeder. "He has the ability to play both inside and out, and we look forward to blending his talent with the returning players on our roster."

The 7-foot, 240-pound junior appeared in three games for the Bonnies in 2013-14.

"Matthias comes from an outstanding program at St. Bonaventure," said Leeder. "He has played at a high level for the past two seasons."

Runs played 22 games during the 2011-2012 year while at Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain's Canary Islands, participating in tournaments in New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

"We have high expectations for Matthias," said Leeder. "We are excited that he is the first piece of the recruiting puzzle as we make preparations for the upcoming season."

Runs will have two seasons of eligibility for the Hurricanes.

"My assistant coach Sean Sweeney continues to do an excellent job of landing players that should be able to compete in the Peach Belt Conference," said Leeder.

GSW is coming off a 20-11 season that ended with a double-overtime loss in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The Hurricanes have reached the "Big Dance" in two of the last four seasons.
