MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The old adage, "live by the three, die by the three," came to fruition on Saturday afternoon at Trustmark Arena as the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team launched 22 3-pointers, but connected on only 27 percent in a 74-64 loss to the University of Montevallo.

It was the lowest shooting percentage from behind the arc for GSW this season.

The Hurricanes fall to 5-5 overall, 1-2 in Peach Belt Conference play, while Montevallo won its sixth straight game and improved its record to 7-3, 3-0 in the PBC.

Southwestern opened the ballgame with a 7-2 run to snag its largest lead of the afternoon.

Montevallo answered by scoring 13 of the next 16 points. The Falcons maintained their advantage through the intermission and led 38-34 at the half.

Adam Thoseby scored the first basket out of the break to pull GSW within a bucket and a few possessions later, Cade Towers gave the Hurricanes a one-point lead, 40-39, with 18:28 to play.

Montevallo scored on its ensuing trip down the floor to regain the lead for good.

The Hurricanes pulled within a point on two occasions. The first time came when Brandon Price knocked down a pair of free throws at the 16:11 mark to make the score 45-44. The second occurred when Damien Leonard sank a pair from the charity stripe to make the score 49-48 with 11:42 on the clock.

After falling behind by nine points, GSW made one final run and chipped the deficit down to two, 61-59, after a Jure Gunjina layup at the 5:47 mark.

From there, the Hurricanes went ice cold. GSW missed its next four shots and four free throw attempts over a span of four minutes and 50 seconds to fall behind by 12 points. Gunjina stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer with 57 seconds remaining.

Montevallo finished with a substantial rebounding advantage, 43-30, and dished out ten more assists than the Hurricanes, 19-9.

Gunjina posted his first double-double of the season and led the Hurricanes with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Terrell Lipkins scored a game-high 20 points to lead Montevallo. The Falcons got a pair of double-doubles as Bryant Orange scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Talan Whitaker had 12 points and a game-high 14 boards.

GSW travels to Milledgeville on Monday to face Georgia College at 7:30 p.m.
