Men's Basketball To Meet Georgia State During Regular Season

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team will travel to Atlanta on December 10, for a meeting with NCAA Division I member Georgia State University.

The Hurricanes will have a new look this season under first year head coach Ben Hicks with nine newcomers on the roster. The four returners are senior Brandon Price (11.1 ppg, 5.3 apg), sophomores Devin Watson (played in 26 games last season) and Cale Mainor and redshirt freshman Colt Yawn.

"I am really looking forward to the game against Georgia State University," Hicks said. "I believe our team will gain valuable experience playing against a Division I opponent."

Coming off a third-straight winning season, Georgia State, led by coach Ron Hunter, went 16-14 overall, 9-11 in the Sun Belt in 2015-16. The Panthers top returners are Jeremy Hollowell (14.8 ppg led the team last season, 4.9 rpg) and Isaiah Williams (9.3 ppg).

Georgia State knocked off Baylor in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament as the No. 14 seed in the west region before falling to Xavier in the third round.

"I hope each player takes advantage of this opportunity," Hicks added. "It will definitely benefit us during our regular season."

As dictated by NCAA rules, this matchup will count as a regular season game for Georgia State, but as an exhibition for GSW. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3 starting at 2 p.m.
