Men's Basketball to Play Mississippi State in Exhibition Game

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team will play NCAA Division I and Southeastern Conference member Mississippi State University in an exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 4, in Starkville, Miss.

GSW went 13-14 last year in its second season under head coach Ben Hicks. The Hurricanes will have a new look to the roster this season as they return only four players, but all four were starters last year and are seniors this season. R.J. Sessions leads the group. Sessions was named Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference in 2017-18 as he started all 27 games and led the Hurricanes in scoring (15.3 ppg), minutes played per game (34.1), 3-pointers made per game (2.5) and free throw percentage (86 percent). Joining Sessions are returners Quenten Taylor (12.4 ppg, 3.7 apg), Devin Watson (11.1 ppg) and Andre Statam (11.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg).

"This will be a great experience for my guys to compete against a SEC opponent," Hicks said. "It will bring national exposure to our program and give me an opportunity to coach against one of the best coaches in the world, Ben Howland."

Howland enters his fourth season at the helm for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State returns all five starters and is led by All-SEC standout Quinndary Weatherspoon (14.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and 6-foot-10 Aric Holman (10.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg). MSU went 25-12 overall last season, was 19-2 at home and advanced to the NIT Final Four.
