FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team dropped an 80-65 decision to Fort Valley State University on Wednesday evening in the HPE Arena. 

GSW launched a season-high 31 3-pointers, but connected on a season-low 19.4 percent.

The Hurricanes road woes continue as they fall to 0-5 in games outside of Americus this season and 1-5 overall. Fort Valley State (2-8) has won its last two games after starting the season with eight consecutive losses.   

How It Happened: The Hurricanes led by four points in the first half, 17-13, after a 3-pointer by Grant Howard with 11:31 remaining and maintained a four-point edge, 21-17, at the 8:30 mark following a pair of Andre Statam free throws. Fort Valley State closed out the opening session on a 19-8 run and took a 36-29 lead into the break.

GSW outscored the Wildcats, 14-4, over the opening four and a half minutes of the second half to regain the advantage and a Statam 3-pointer at the 7:23 mark gave the Hurricanes their largest lead of the night, 58-52. GSW relinquished the lead for good with 4:39 as the start to a 14-0 run by Fort Valley State that put the game out of reach.  

It was a back-and-forth affair throughout with 12 ties and 11 lead changes. GSW held a lead in the game for nearly 20 minutes (19:16) with six and a half of it coming in the second half.        

Fort Valley State finished with a higher shooting percentage than GSW (45.5-31.0), was near perfect at the free throw line (22 of 24) and accurate from beyond the arc (8 of 13).  

Who Stood Out: It was a three man show for Fort Valley State. K'Viontae Willia, Jaylon McMillan and Shawn Foxbrennen all scored over 20 points for the Wildcats. Willia led the way with 23. McMillan was a point behind at 22 and Foxbrennen turned in a double-double as he grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go with his 21 points.  

While Fort Valley State's top three scorers finished with over 20 points apiece, none of the Hurricanes top three reached 20. Statam led with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Morgan added 11 points and nine boards. Quenten Taylor chipped in 10 points.
