Late Surge Helps Defeat Tuskegee; Canes Off to Best Start in 10 Years

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team got back into the win column, defeating Tuskegee University, 77-71, on Saturday afternoon in the Storm Dome. The Hurricanes improved their record to 8-2 and are off to their best start since the 2013-14 season.

Jalen Johnson recorded his third-consecutive 20-point performance, finishing with 23 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. The Hurricanes had two additional players score in double figures. Jordon Johnson recorded 12 points with two rebounds and Christian Koonce tallied 10 points with two rebounds and an assist.

The game was a back and fourth affair with neither team completely dominating the other but the Hurricanes made late clutch shots to help them earn the victory.

  • GSW shot better at the charity stripe 81.8 percent compared to 50 percent for Tuskegee
