Wild Horses; Hurricanes Fall to #12 USC Aiken 93-69

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team had their two game winning streak snapped falling to No. 12 USC Aiken, 93-69, on Wednesday night.

Despite the one-sided affair, four Hurricanes scored in double figures. Jalen Johnson led the team with 18 points, he recovered two rebounds, recorded four assists, and three steals and hit all six of his shot attempts from the charity stripe. Johnson has reached double-digit points in consecutive games. He leads all GSW players with 11 games scoring in double figures.

Christian Koonce recorded 13 points, hauled in two boards and dished two assists. This was the ninth game of the season that Koonce has scored 10 or more points. 

Jaylen Jordon recorded 12 points, with four rebounds, and two assists he was another Hurricanes player to connect on all of his free throw attempts. Jordan Johnson accumulated 11 points. He connected on all four of his free throw attempts he collected two rebounds. Jordan Johnson has recorded 10 or more points in six consecutive games.

The final Hurricanes player to amass a double digit figure Tim Hall Jr. recorded his first double-double of the season he scored 10 points, and acquired 12 rebounds. Hall Jr. has collected double digit rebounds in back-to-back games. 

USC Aiken (13-2, 4-1 PBC) came in as one the best teams in the country and handed the Hurricanes their first loss in the Storm Dome this season (5-1).

Inside the Storm

  • The Hurricanes trailed by 17 at the break, 42-25
  • The closest GSW would get in the second half is within 16 with 12:25 remaining following a Justin Monden 3-point play, but USCA answered with a 14-4 run to over the following three minutes to put the game out of reach
  • GSW committed 12 turnovers and the Pacers scored 17 points off the turnovers
  • The Pacers finished with a 62-30 points in the paint advantage
  • The Pacers held the rebounding advantage 48-30
