Griffin named PBC Golfer of the Week

Georgia Southwestern sophomore J.P. Griffin was named Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week this afternoon by the conference office.

Griffin finished in second place out of 75 participants in the stroke-play portion of the 14-team AFLAC/Cougar Invitational, finishing the event with a two-under-par 140. He shot a tournament-low 66 in the second round, one of only three players to go that low this year and tied for the second-lowest round in the PBC this season. Griffin finished just two strokes back of Barry's Daniel Stapff for the tournament title.

The Glennville, Ga. native becomes the third GSW golfer to win an athlete of the week award from the PBC since the Hurricanes began competing in the conference in the fall of 2006. Teammate Craig Gibson won the award last year after winning the AFLAC/Cougar Invite and Adam McKenney was named PBC Golfer of the Week on September 26, 2008.
