Griffin finishes runner-up; Hurricanes miss the cut

Sophomore J.P. Griffin fired a tournament-low 66 in the second round of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at the Country Club of Columbus on Monday afternoon to finish the day in second place out of 75 golfers with a 2-under 140. The GSW team shot a two-round 605, finishing 12th out of 14 teams in its final match of the fall.

Host Columbus State led after Day 1 with a score of 576 (288-288). North Alabama and Valdosta State sat tied for second with a score of 577.

Daniel Stapff of Barry shot a pair of 69s to finish two strokes ahead of Griffin for the top individual performance.

Nate Gahman posted a 151 (73-78) for GSW. Craig Gibson, individual mediallist at the 2009 Aflac/Cougar Invite, shot a 154 (74-80). Rounding out the scoring for the 'Canes was Charles Pennington and Reese Moseley with scores of 164 (86-78) and 169 (82-87), respectively.
