GSW 9th after Day 1 at Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern golf team shaved nine strokes off of its opening-round score on Monday to move from 11th to ninth after Day 1 at the 14-team Argonaut Invitational played at Pensacola Country Club.

Nate Gahman shot even par (75-69) for the day to lead the Hurricanes and is tied for sixth out of 74 participants. Gahman's 69 in the second round was the lowest score shot in the late session and a stroke away from being the low round of the tournament.

Host West Florida (584) leads after Day 1, a stroke ahead of No. 9 Georgia College and two ahead of Belmont Abbey. Of the eight schools in front of GSW, six are nationally-ranked with four coming in the Top 15.

Ryan Black of West Florida shot a 4-under 144 (70-70) to lead all individuals.

John Wilson Gordon finished with an 8-over 152 to hold second for GSW. J.P. Griffin is two strokes behind Gordon and is tied for 44th place. Rounding out the scoring for the 'Canes is Reese Moseley and Craig Gibson with scores of 159 and 160, respectively.

The tournament wraps up with a final round on Tuesday.
