Gahman receives PBC honors

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern sophomore Nate Gahman was named to the 16-member Peach Belt Conference men’s golf All-Conference team Sunday evening at a banquet in Pooler ,Ga., site of the 2011 PBC golf championships. The 16 golfers were placed on first and second teams. 

Gahman, a second team selection, finished the season with the 15th-lowest scoring average in the Peach Belt at 74.1.

The Leesburg native recorded one top-five finish in nine tournaments and finished in the Top 10 on two occasions.

He fired a season-low 69 on Feb. 28, in the second round of the Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club and finished the tournament at 1-over to tie for sixth in the 75-player field.

In the fall, Gahman finished fourth at the two-round Darton Fall Classic in Albany.

Of the 21 rounds played in 2010-11, Gahman finished par or better six times.

Georgia College’s Billy Shida was named the PBC Player of the Year with Lander’s Max Fischer earning Freshman of the Year honors.  GC’s Jimmy Wilson was named the Coach of the Year. 

Gahman joins teammate Craig Gibson as the only GSW golfers to earn a PBC All-Conference award. Gibson was named to the first team in 2009-10.

Gahman and the Hurricanes took to the course on Monday for the first two rounds of the PBC Championships.
