AMERICUS - NCAA coaches are taking notice.

The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team received some high praise from fellow D-II schools on Wednesday as the Hurricanes came in at No. 5 in the country in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll.

Even more impressive, Coach Danna and the Hurricanes received three first-place votes.

California State University Stanislaus and Lynn University (Fla.) tied for the top spot overall, however, with 370 points apiece. GSW garnered 321 points, 10 behind Central Oklahoma.

The No 5 ranking is not only the highest ranking in program history, but it is also the highest ranking in any sport at GSW during the university's NCAA era (2006-07).

The Blue & Gold currently have the fourth and fifth-lowest scoring averages in the Peach Belt Conference. Craig Gibson is fourth with a 72.7 and current PBC Golfer of the Week J.P. Griffin is fifth with a 72.9. Griffin's final-round 66 at the Aflac Cougar Invitational on Oct. 4 continues to be the lowest round recorded in the PBC this season.

GSW returns to tournament play on Mar. 12 at the Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta.
