Follow the 'Canes at the NCAA Regional

CONOVER, N.C. - It all gets started at 8:20 a.m. Monday morning from the first tee at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Jones Course. Freshman Travis Oestmann will strike the first ball in Georgia Southwestern's inaugural visit to the NCAA Championships.

Southwestern golfers will be paired with competitors from Wingate University and the University of North Alabama in Round 1. Live stats are available throughout the three-day South/Southeast Regional at the following link.

Oestmann will be followed by teammates Christopher Hall (8:30 a.m.), J.P. Griffin (8:40 a.m.), Nate Gahman (8:50 a.m.) and Craig Gibson (9 a.m.).

Gibson currently ranks 25th in Division II with a 72.64 scoring average. His 4.08 stroke average on par 4 holes is good for 12th in the nation and his 90 birdies ties for 24th.

The Hurricanes had a banner year as the team took home numerous awards. These accolades were highlighted by the team's conference awards, including Gibson (First Team All-PBC), Griffin (Second Team All-PBC) and Head Coach Andrew Danna (Peach Belt Coach of the Year) all garnering recognition. Gibson was also named to the Peach Belt All-Tournament team earlier this month, which also saw the Hurricanes finish in sixth in the conference championship.

The South/Southeast Regional will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne. GSW is just one of 80 teams participating in the NCAA Tournament, but they will look to finish in the top five of the twenty teams in the regional in order to qualify for the Super-Regional round of play. If they do so they will play May 15–19 in Louisville, Ky. in the NCAA National Championships.
