Ward Leads Canes To 7th-Place Finish At PBC Championships

PINE MOUNTAIN - The Georgia Southwestern golf team finished tied for seventh place at the 11-team Peach Belt Conference Championships held at Callaway Gardens on Saturday. Nicholas Ward led GSW with a 3-over par 75 total as the event was trimmed to one round due to inclement weather.

Ward played even par over the opening nine holes on the par-72, 7,057-yard Mountain View Course, and dipped into the red with a birdie on No. 11. However, the final five holes were unkind to the freshman as he played 4-over down the stretch to finish tied for 17th in the 55-player field. The 18th-hole turned out to be the tournament's toughest hole with only two birdies registered and 31 bogeys. All of GSW's golfers played the 18th over par.

Anders Olsson and Nick Ray finished a stroke back of Ward for the Hurricanes with scores of 76. Fraser Johnston tied for 28th place with a 77 and Jungsun Lee wrapped up 2014 with a 78.

No. 2 USC Aiken won the team title with a 3-over 291 score. Brandon Robinson-Thompson was the individual medalist with a 4-under 68.
