Hurricanes Lead NCAA Division II All-America Scholar List

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University men's golfers Hayes Dupree, Fraser Johnston, Nicholas Ward and Anders Olsson have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Hurricanes joined Western New Mexico University, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Tusculum College and Rollins College as the NCAA Division II leaders with four student-athletes on the All-America Scholar list.

To be eligible for All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Dupree wrapped up his collegiate career with consecutive All-America Scholar honors. In addition, he was named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll for the second time in June after playing 29 rounds for the Hurricanes in 2015-16. A native of Mohave Valley, Ariz., Dupree was third on the team with a 75.00 stroke average and collected two top-10 finishes in the 10 tournaments played.

Johnston played 20 rounds over seven tournaments for the Hurricanes in 2015-16. A junior from Port Seton, Scotland, Johnston added to his postseason accolades when he was named to the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll for the third consecutive year.

Ward was the recipient of the 2015-16 Peach Belt Elite 15 Award for men's golf by being the student-athlete in the conference with the highest cumulative GPA. He is a two-time All-Conference selection and a member of the 2014-15 Division II PING All-Region Southeast Team. A junior from Eastbourne, England, Ward played in every tournament for the Hurricanes in 2015-16 and was second on the team with a 74.09 stroke average. He had three top-10 finishes and fired 10 rounds at par or lower.

Olsson earned his second All-America Scholar award as he completed the career sweep with his fourth consecutive appearance on the PBC Presidential Honor Roll. Olsson finished his playing career in 2015-16 with 29 rounds in 10 events. From Smyrna, Ga., he was named All-Conference in 2014 and to the men's golf All-Academic team for the third time in 2016.

The GSW quartet comprised over half of the PBC's representation on the All-America list as a total of seven individuals from the conference earned the honor.
