GSW Golf Swings Into Fall Slate

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern golf team is teeing up for another great year as their 2019-20 campaign is getting ready to start. The Hurricanes are set with four fall invitationals and six spring invitationals, including their annual Hurricane Invitational. 

GSW begins the season Sept. 23-24, competing in the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational that's hosted by Columbus State. They then travel to Florida where they will they will compete in the GolfRank Invitational, Oct. 7-8 and the Copperhead Championship, Oct. 14-15. The GolfRank is hosted by Nova Southeastern and the Copperhead will be hosted by West Florida where GSW finished in 5th place last year. The Hurricanes cap their fall slate in Kannapolis, N.C., where they will play in the Queens University Fall Invitational, Oct. 21-22. 

The Hurricanes tee off in the spring, Feb. 17-18, in the Newberry College Invitational before coming home to host their annual Hurricane Invitational, Feb. 24-25. Afterwards, they will travel to Valdosta, Ga., for a three-day invitational, March 8-10, to compete in the Southeastern Collegiate. On the following week, GSW competes in the Bobcat Intercollegiate, March 16-17, in Eatonton, Ga.  

GSW's final regular season tournament will be played on the beaches in Pensacola, Fla., as West Florida hosts the Argonaut Invitational, April 6-7. The Peach Belt Conference Championship will be hosted by Flagler College, April 17-19, in St. Augustine, Fla. as GSW finished in 5th place last season. 

The Hurricanes had six top-10 finishes last season, with their lowest being at the Hurricane Invitational with a 2nd place finish. GSW's 5th place finish in the PBC Championship placed them only a few strokes shy from getting an at-large berth into the DII tournament.

In the summer, All-American Vincent Norrman competed as in individual in the NCAA DII Championship and finished in 19th place of 108 golfers. Norrman also competed in the 2019 European Amateur Team Championship where he helped the Sweden team bring home their first European Amateur Team title since 1961.

According to Bushnell Golfweek, GSW is currently receiving votes on the Division II Preseason Coaches Poll. They are complete with four returning players along with three transfer student-athletes.
