AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team, fresh off Wednesday's draw with Lincoln Memorial, looked to answer the call yet again. After a scoreless first half, the Florida Memorial Lions (5-4-0) drew first blood when freshman Marcelo Barbosa headed in the cross from Gerardo Schoeller three minutes into the second half.  The Hurricanes were unable to muster a game-tying goal in Sunday's 1-0 loss at Hurricane Field.

The Blue & Gold attack yielded only one shot on goal in the first half, which was taken by junior KleesBatner Loembet-Makaya. That shot was one of nine taken by GSW in the game, three of which were saved by FMU goalie Anthony Olischard .

After conceding the go ahead goal in the 48th minute, the GSW offense staggered for much of the second half. The FMU frontline registered six shots in the second half including one that hit the near post and another that deflected off the crossbar.

The offensive pace did pick up in the final minutes of the game. During the 87th minute, a Shane McKay shot was deflected down by FMU keeper Olischard. The ball bounced up in the box, and freshman forward Joshua Manga headed the ball from point blank range. Olischard was able to recover from the first save and make the save on Manga's attempt just seconds later.

Sunday's loss puts the GSW Hurricane record 2-4-1 on the season. The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Wednesday as the men's and women's teams play a double header at Thomas University. The Lady 'Canes will take to the pitch at 5:00 pm with the men schedule to play at 7:30 pm.
