Pacers Pass Hurricanes In A Windy Defeat

AMERICUS- The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team battled both the wind and the University of South Carolina Aiken Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field for their fourth Peach Belt Conference game of the season.

The first half was a windy fight from the start. Aiken took control of the ball and had thier first shot in minutes but GSW's Garrett Blamire was ready for them and made the save. Moments later Isaac Avila passed the Pacers defense with quick feet but his shot was taken by the wind and went wide. The wind played no favorites to either team but during Aiken's penalty kick it did play a little part when the ball went high.

The rest of the first half the Hurricane's defense and Blamire took on the Pacers rapid fire but were able to keep anything from going in the net.

The second half was a tougher battle for GSW. The Pacers peppered the net from the start and were able to put one in at the 57:18 mark. Twenty minutes later they scored again off a free kick making the score 2-0. GSW tried to come back but both the wind and Aiken proved to be too much.

The Hurricanes had nine shots to 24 by USCA. GSW's Blamire stood tall in net recording 16 saves to The Pacers combined three. GSW is now 3-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the PBC.

GSW is home again Saturday, Oct. 11, for their Senior Day to face off against North Georgia at 3:30 p.m.
