Blamire Saves PK To Preserve Draw In PBC Opener

PEMBROKE, N.C. - Georgia Southwestern senior goalkeeper Garrett Blamire saved a UNC Pembroke penalty kick in the 75th minute to force overtime, and ultimately earn a 1-1 draw, on Saturday afternoon in the Peach Belt Conference men's soccer opener for both schools.

GSW's overall record moved to 0-1-2 this fall while UNCP ended the day at 2-1-1.

Isaac Avila put GSW ahead in the 66th minute when Charlie Curran delivered a long cross from the right side to set up the first goal of the match.

The Braves wasted no time answering as Izzy Evans found the back of the net at the 72:04 mark to even the score at 1-1.

Both sides delivered a shot on goal in the first overtime, but neither could get a clean look in the final extra session.

UNCP finished the match with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.

Blamire saved seven shots overall for GSW. Kenneth Perkinson turned away three for UNCP.

The Hurricanes travel to Faulkner University on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match with the Eagles.
