Late Goals Push Barons Past GSW

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team surrendered a pair of second-half goals to Brewton-Parker College on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 2-1 loss in non-conference play.

GSW drops to 0-4-2 this season while Brewton-Parker improved its record to 4-5. The Hurricanes have allowed 13 of their opponent's 17 goals in the second half of matches this fall.

The schools were scoreless on Saturday heading into the halftime break.

Felipe Nunez put Brewton-Parker on the board in the 64th minute with his third goal of the season and made it back-to-back scores when he took a pass from Carlos Lora in the 84th minute to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.

GSW freshman Shane Madray notched his first collegiate goal in the 86th minute, off an assist from Zack Pirtle, to pull the visitors within a goal.

Brewton-Parker finished with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal while the Hurricanes won the corner kicks battle, 9-3.

GSW starting goalkeeper Joshua Swift saved three in the first half. Garrett Blamire stopped a pair over the final 45 minutes. Bryan Alvarez made one save for Brewton-Parker.

The Hurricanes host Flagler on Wednesday in a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against the Saints.
