AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 Peach Belt Conference decision to Flagler College on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field. 

Southwestern's record drops to 1-5-2 overall, 0-2-1 in the PBC, while Flagler improved its mark to 3-2-1 and 3-1 in conference play.

The story of the first half for the Hurricanes was missed opportunities. GSW outshot Flagler, 11-9, over the opening 45 minutes, with five attempts on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Saints converted two attempts in the opening stanza. Pedro Silva squeezed one inside the pipe in the ninth minute to put Flagler on the board and Erlend Lofsgaard made a penalty kick in the 29th minute.     

The Saints took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Jonny Cosgrove opened the Flagler lead to three goals with his score in the 55th minute.

Shane Madray was able to punch in a rebound off Isaac Avila's shot attempt to put one on the board for the Hurricanes in the 77th minute. Madray, a freshman from Jesup, Ga., has scored in GSW's last two games.  

That's as close as Southwestern would get the rest of the way as Silva proceeded to tally his second goal of the contest less than a minute later and Oscar Davidsson closed out the scoring with a goal in the 87th minute.

The Saints finished with 15-7 shots on goal advantage, but the Hurricanes held a 12-8 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Jonathan Sayers led the GSW offense with seven shots in the match, three attempts on goal. Avila added a pair of shots on goal.

GSW goalkeeper Joshua Swift turned away nine shots. Lex Craggs stopped six for Flagler over the opening 83 minutes before Nevio Golos came on to cover the final 6:52. Golos did not face a shot on goal.

The Hurricanes return to action on Saturday when they travel to USC Aiken for a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt match.
