AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern men soccer players Trevor Dempsey, D.J. Garrett, Onorio Molina, Silvio Polly, and Joshua Swift recently received Peach Belt Conference All-Academic honors as announced by the league office.
The PBC All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Dempsey picks up his second career PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors since his last year. The sophomore midfielder was a Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar his freshman year. The Columbus, Ga., native appeared in 17 games this season and started in 16.
Garrett is also making second appearance on the PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors list. The Warner Robins, Ga., native was a Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar as a sophomore. The junior midfielder played in all 17 games in the 2015 season, started 11 and made two assists.
Molina joins the PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors list for the first time as a senior. He was named a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar this season. The Pearson, Ga., native played in 12 games and had one assist as a mid-fielder.
Polly is the fourth Cane to join the list for this season. As a freshman she was named Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar. The Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, foward played in 15 games, started in 12, has 6 goals (2 conference), and one assist.
Rounding out the list is Swift. Making his second appearance as a PBC All-Academic honoree, he is a 2-year Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar. The sophomore goal keeper appeared in 7 games this past season, started in 5, has 498:47 minutes (388:47 conference), 14 goals against (13 conference), and 34 saves (28 conference).
