FMU's Sandmann Sprinkles Goals, Puts GSW Home Schedule To Slumber

AMERICUS - Francis Marion University forward Levin Sandmann, the current Peach Belt Conference points leader, handled all of the scoring on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field as he led the Patriots past Georgia Southwestern, 2-0, on GSW's Senior Day.

Sandmann broke open a scoreless match in the 38th minute off an assist from Austin Lee and added a second score, his 11th goal of the season, in the 82nd minute after a pass down the middle from Oliver Drakenhammar got past the Hurricanes defense.

GSW drops to 2-10-1 overall this fall, 1-6 in the PBC while Francis Marion improved its record to 7-7-1, 5-3 in conference play.

The Hurricanes finished with an 18-17 advantage in shots while FMU held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

GSW recognized its two seniors, Brennan Bauschka and Isaac Avila, before the match, along with a pair of players who will not be returning next fall. Redshirt junior Colby Smith will be graduating this academic year and Juan Morales will be transferring to pursue his mechanical engineering degree.

A pair of road matches over the next week await Southwestern to close out the 2016 regular season. GSW is at Young Harris College on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
