Middle Georgia Snatches Victory Away From GSW

COCHRAN, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team was 118 seconds away from victory Wednesday evening at Middle Georgia State University, leading 1-0 late in the second half, but the Hurricanes surrendered the equalizer in the 89th minute and eventually ran out of gas as Middle Georgia delivered the heartbreaking score in the 96th minute to send GSW back to Americus with a 2-1 overtime loss.

The Hurricanes dropped their second straight 2-1 decision to fall to 3-2-1 overall this fall, while Middle Georgia picked up its first victory of the year to improve to 1-6-1.

After the schools quietly made their way to halftime after a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Silvio Polly put GSW on top with his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 52nd minute.

Offense was hard to come by for the Hurricanes after Polly's score as the squad's final shot of the evening came in the 74th minute from Shane Madray. From there, GSW just tried to hang on.

Middle Georgia took the final 10 shots of the match, of which two led to goals.

Middle Georgia finished with a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. GSW committed nine more fouls (16-7).
