#38 Delta State Squashes GSW Upset Bid

AMERICUS -The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team grabbed an early 2-1 lead after doubles play against No. 38 Delta State University on Thursday, but was unable to parlay the advantage into an upset as the Statesmen stormed back in singles and defeated GSW, 6-3.

The Hurricanes picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and came within a tie-breaker of making a full sweep of the early action. Stephen Moore and Ryan Bartz topped Chrisitan Garcia and Tobias Rausch, 8-6, at No. 2 for Southwestern. Joseph Bjerregaard and Matt Vansant won, 8-5, at No. 3 over Sebastian Rajaonary and Clement Depreeuw.

Delta State won in straight sets in five of the six singles matches. The lone bright spot for GSW was at No. 6 where Jake Koonce defeated Rajaonary, 6-2, 6-2.

GSW drops to 4-12 overall, while Delta State improves to 5-5.

The Hurricanes travel to Emory-Oxford on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. match.
