GSW Men's Tennis Hurricane Highlight #2: 'Canes Challenge DI Mercer

AMERICUS - The No. 2 Hurricane Highlight of the 2013 men's tennis season came when the Hurricanes put up a fight against Division I Mercer University.

GSW forced the Bears to take notice when they won two of three doubles matches to earn the first team point heading into singles play and then grabbed first-set advantages at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

Evgeniy Vinogradov and Jake Koonce defeated Peter Tauchner and Joao Pagan, 9-8, at No. 1 doubles and Chris Eastwood and Tommy Cangelosi prevailed, 8-5, over Arnav Mohanty and Arsav Mohanty at No. 2. Division I rules state that the school earning at least two of the victories in doubles earns one point towards the team tally.

Both Vinogradov and Joseph Bjerregaard put up solid individual efforts, taking their respective opponents to three sets in the singles competition.

The 'Canes eventually succumbed to the Bears, 6-1, but Southwestern produced a good performance against the Division I foe at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon.

On Monday the top Hurricane Highlight of the 2013 men's tennis season will be revealed.
