Trio Placed On PBC All-Academic Tennis Teams

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams combined for three Peach Belt Conference 2014 All-Academic honorees as announced by the league office this afternoon. Senior Stephen Moore was selected to the men's team while junior Carly Cangelosi and sophomore Sydnee Smith earned honorable mention on the women's side.

Stephen Moore earned the award for his third consecutive year - every year that he has been eligible. The Valdosta, Ga. carries a 3.786 grade point average and is pursuing his degree in Chemistry. Moore spent the majority of the spring playing No. 3 singles for the Hurricanes and partnered with Oliver Marshall at No. 2 doubles.

Cangelosi holds a 3.444 GPA as an exercise science major. The Valdosta native split time between No. 1 and No. 2 singles this spring while teaming with Victoria Ondo at No. 1 doubles.

Smith holds a 3.744 GPA as a nursing major. The Pelham, Ga. native played No. 3 singles and partnered with Ginny Jones at No. 2 doubles.

The PBC All-Academic teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
