Weekend Recap: Men's Tennis Wins 2 of 3

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team swept Point University, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex to improve their record to 2-5 this spring.

Jonathan Martin and Andrew Greneker posted the largest margin of victory in doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Oliver Marshall cruised at No. 4 singles to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Andrew Hays. Steven Blythe was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 1 for the Hurricanes.

Alex Canovas Ferrando (No. 2) and Jonathan Martin (No. 6) kept the shutout intact with tiebreaker victories. Canovas Ferrando won 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) and Martin came from behind to win 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (14-12).

GSW kicks off Peach Belt Conference with matches at USC Aiken (Saturday) and Lander (Sunday) this weekend.

EARLY SATURDAY RECAP: GSW 1, (#37) FLORIDA TECH 8

The No. 2 doubles team of Alex Canovas Ferrando and Beau Millwood picked up GSW's lone victory against 37th-ranked Florida Tech on Saturday morning at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. Canovas Ferrando and Millwood defeated the team of Wade Ball and Majed Alshaikh, 8-4.

Joel Landis went to a tiebreaker with Alshaikh to decide the match at No. 4 singles. Alshaikh prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).

THURSDAY RECAP: GSW 9, FORT VALLEY STATE 0

The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday afternoon at the Fort Valley State University tennis courts.

The Hurricanes cruised through doubles action without dropping a game.

Alex Canovas Ferrando (No. 2) and Beau Millwood (No. 3) carried their shutouts over to singles play where they both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins. Jonathan Martin and Andrew Greneker won shortened 8-0 matches in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
