AMERICUS, Ga. – Tuesday's double header between the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes and the West Georgia Lady Wolves was the second postponement made up by GSW from last week's inclement weather. The Blue & Gold tallied 18 total hits, but left 15 runners on base in their split with West Georgia. The Lady Hurricanes won game one 4-2 but dropped game two 4-1.

GAME ONE: Georgia Southwestern-4  West Georgia-2

After two scoreless innings, West Georgia would strike first after a pair of Hurricane errors in the third. Martin would overcome her own error and a Mason Moreland error to limit the damage to two runs after the first four Lady Wolves batters reached base.

Martin would cruise after the troublesome third inning as she would not give up another run for the rest of the game. She would give up a single in the fourth inning before retiring the visitors in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Coach Ward and company would cut the two-run lead in half when Hayley Knight would drive in Janna Anderson with a RBI single. The Blue & Gold would tie the game in the fifth inning with a Mason Moreland RBI before taking the lead in the sixth. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Katie Wooten and Janna Anderson would give the home team the 4-2 lead, which was the final score.

Janna Anderson led the Georgia Southwestern hitting brigade with a 3-3 day with two doubles, one run scored and a RBI. GSW starter Jessica Martin would throw the complete game while striking out four West Georgia batters and earning the win.

GAME TWO: Georgia Southwestern-1 West Georgia-4

After only leaving five runners on base with four extra base hits, the Lady 'Canes would reverse the course in game two. GSW would only get one extra base hit in game two while leaving ten runners on base.

The Blue & Gold's only run would come on their only extra base hit as Hayley Knight would double down the left field line to drive in Janna Anderson in the second inning.  Knight's RBI would tie the game at 1-1 after Kristen Hall drove in the game's first run in West Georgia's half of the second.

Georgia Southwestern starter Brittny Dennison would surrender the lead again in the fifth inning as she would be charged with three earned runs in the inning before being relieved by Casey Burns. After Burns threw a wild pitch to the first batter she faced, she would get the last out of the fifth inning. She would go on to throw two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. However, the damage was already done as West Georgia's 4-1 lead would hold until game's end.

The split decision on Tuesday puts the Georgia Southwestern record at 8-10 on the season. On Friday, March 1st they will face a familiar foe. GSW's double header at Fort Valley State will be the Hurricanes' second match-up with the Lady Wildcats in five days. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Fort Valley.
