AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern softball team met in a doubleheader against No. 8 North Georgia on Sunday afternoon. The Nighthawks were able to sweep the Lady 'Canes with a 5-1 in Game 1 and a 5-0 decision in the nightcap.

GAME 1: UNG 5 – GSW 1

North Georgia put runs up on the scoreboard first in the second inning. The first runs came from a walk and the second came when the batter was hit by the pitch, pushing the third base runner home. Following this, a single on the left side allowed two runners to make it home safely.

In the bottom of the second GSW was able to retaliate with one run when Ashley Clifton hit a double to allow Jordan Miller to make it home.

North Georgia had one more run scored in the top of the third after a double to right center brought the runner home.

Allison Pastor (13-12) takes the loss after pitching a complete game and giving up ten hits and five runs. Pastor faced 33 batters and struck out six.

North Georgia's Courtney Poole (19-7) takes the win after also pitching a whole game and only allowing one run and two hits.

GAME 2: UNG 5 – GSW 0

North Georgia's Meredith Heyer was fortunate enough to hit a home run to allow herself and a runner on first to make it home early in the second inning.

The next runs came in the fourth inning, when a single and then a sacrifice fly out to left field allowed two more runs.

The last run came in the sixth inning when Candace German made it home off a wild pitch.

Ashley Cavender (12-14) takes credit for the loss after pitching in four innings where she gave up five hits and four runs. Cavender faced 19 batters and struck out four. Pastor made an appearance to finish the game with three innings and only gave up one hit and one run.

North Georgia's Victoria Sink (21-1) takes the win after pitching a complete game shutout only giving up four hits and only one strike out.

The Lady 'Canes will be back at Lady 'Cane field on Tuesday, April 15th to take on West Georgia in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
