Lady 'Canes Split In Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C- The Georgia Southwestern women's softball team (8-12, 1-5) split Sunday afternoon, winning game one but losing game two to UNC Pembroke (12-7, 2-2) at LRA Field.

GAME 1: GSW 9, UNC 4

Pembroke scored the first run at the bottom of the second and the Lady 'Canes tied it up in the third after Rachel McElroy hit one to left field bringing Mary Beth Wilson in to score.

Pembroke scored again in the bottom of the third and held the lead through the fourth.

McElroy was back up to bat for GSW in the top of the fifth and with bases loaded knocked one of the park getting a grand slam and taking the lead 5-2. Pembroke tried to battle but only scored one in the bottom of the fourth.

At the top of the sixth Allee Denney singled one up the middle to send Graysen Sanders in making the score 6-3.

With a two run lead the Lady 'Canes werent ready to call it a game just yet. With two outs at the top of the seventh Haley Warner brought in Keri Tompkins and Kendall Stanaland after hitting her first career home run as a GSW Lady 'Cane.

Pembroke scored once more in the bottom of the seventh but GSW's 9 runs let them take their first conference win of the season.

The Lady 'Canes finished the game with 7 hits, 9 runs, 9 RBIs and 3 errors.

Haley Goodson (4-6) took the win for the Lady 'Canes after pitching 7 innings. She gave up 9 hits, 4 run, walked 0 and struck out 2.

GAME 2: GSW 2, UNC 10

The Lady 'Canes just could not keep the momentum from game one and dropped in game two. Pembroke scored four in the first and kept the runs coming scoring two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. The game ended after 4 1/2 innings.

Erin Steele scored both runs for GSW, one at the top of the third and the other at the top of the fifth.

GSW finished the game with 9 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 3 errors.

Savannah Carlise (2-6) took the loss for GSW pitching 3 innings, gave up 9 hits, 10 runs, walked 1 and struck out 1.

Brittany Childs pitched 1 inning, gave up 2 hits, 0 runs, walked 0 and struck out 1.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Tuesday to host Palm Atlantic in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
