AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team split their double header on opening day with Tusculum College to start the season off 1-1 Saturday evening at Lady 'Canes Field.

GAME 1: GSW 6, TC 2

Tusculum took a 2-0 lead at the top of the second inning. Robin Stoner singled and then advanced to second on a pass ball, moved to third when Eliza Davis walked and scored off a single from Miranda Beeler and Davis scored off a wild pitch.

Erin Steele put GSW on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third after she got on first off a bunt, stole second and went home off a single from Mikela Barlow (P-Nut).

Barlow (P-Nut) scored in the fifth inning after singling to left field, stealing second and headed home off a wild pitch.

The Lady 'Canes felt the pressure heading into the bottom of the sixth tied 2-2 in game 1 on opening day. Steele singled and then stole second and advanced to third off a single from Brittany Davis and scored off a bunt from P-nut. Davis scored off a single from Lacy Striblin and P-nut scored off a sacrifice fly from Allee Denny.

GSW's defense held off the Pioneers and took a 6-2 victory and finished with ten hits, six runs, four RBIs.

Haley Goodson (1-0) pitched 7 innings, had 5 hits, 2 runs, walked 3 and struck out 3.

GAME 2: GSW 3, TC 7

The Lady 'Caneswere up 1-0 in second when Haley Warner scored off a single from Graysen Sanders.

Tusculum scored two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a three run lead.GSW cut the lead to one run when Davis and P-nut scored in the bottom of the fifth.

The Pioneers had two on base with two outs in the sixth. Robin Stoner singled and advanced to second on the throw and sent both runners on base home. Bailey Culler reached first on an error and Stoner advanced to third. Emily Hester singled to center field sending Stoner home.

The Lady 'Canes lost game 2 7-3 and finished with five hits, three runs, three RBIs and two errors.

Brittany Childs (0-1) took the loss for GSW after pitching 5 innings, gave up seven hits, four runs, walked four and struck out three.

Savannah Carlisle pitched 1 inning had six hits and three runs. Goodson pitched 1 inning.

The Lady 'Canes play at West Georgia on Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m.
