Wolves Sweep Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team lost both games of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Lady 'Canes Field against the University of West Georgia (6-0) to fall to 1-3 this season.

GAME 1: GSW 4, UWG 10

The Wolves took a two run lead at the top of the first and got another run in the third to lead 3-0. The Lady 'Canes tied it with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Hayley Tierce scored off a double from Nikki Graham, Lacy Striblin scored after Bri Lewis grounded out to second and Graham scored off a single from Erin Steele.

West Georgia scored another run in the fifth and Brittany Davis scored to tie it up again for GSW.

Unfortunately GSW's defense could not keep the Wolves at bay and they racked up five more runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to win 10-6.

GSW finished with eight hits, four runs and four RBIs.

Haley Goodson (1-1) pitched seven innings, had 14 hits, 10 runs, walked one and struck out two.

GAME 2: GSW 3, UWG 7

West Georgia started the second game the same way as game one, with two runs. B. Davis scored for GSW off a double from Joshlyn Martin to put them on the board. Graham and Rebekah Davis scored in the second to give GSW a 3-2 lead.

The Wolves scored three more runs in the third including a 2RBI home run. They scored one in the fifth and one more in the seventh and were able to hold off GSW from scoring to take a 7-3 victory.

The Lady 'Canes finished with five hits, three runs and three RBIs.

Kaley Sikes took the loss for GSW after pitching four innings, gave up nine hits, five runs and struck out two.

Brittany Childs pitched three innings, gave up one hit, two runs and  walked two.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Tuesday to play a pair of games against Albany State starting at 1 p.m.
