GSW Splits In Day One Of Sailfish Showdown Softball Tournament

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Georgia Southwestern softball team is now 6-4 in the season after losing game one to Florida Tech and winning game two against Barry University in day one of the Sailfish Showdown Softball Tournament hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University.

GAME 1: GSW 1, FT 4

Freshman Hayley Tierce knocked one out of the park in the first inning to capture her second home run of the season and GSW's only run of the game.

Florida Tech tied it in the bottom of the first and the game remained 1-1 for four innings until Florida Tech rallied in the bottom of the sixth and scored three runs to take the 4-1 win.

GSW's finished with 3 hits, 1 run and 0 RBIs.

Haley Goodson (2-2) pitched six innings, had six hits, four runs, walked one and struck out two.

GAME 2: GSW 6, BU 5

Barry took a 4-0 lead scoring two runs off a single in the first inning and scoring two more in the bottom of the third.

Tierce hit a double to right center to send Brittany Davis home and gave GSW thier first run of the game. The Lady 'Canes held off Barry's offense for the next three innings to head into the bottom of the sixth down by three and rallied.

Goodson doubled to right center, advanced to third on an error and scored on a throwing error. With two outs, two on base and down by two B. Davis hit a single and advanced to second on the throw. Ella Hawkins advanced to third and Emily Smith scored.

Still with two outs and two on base GSW was down by one and Mikela Barlow was up to bat. Barlow hit a double to left field sending Hawkins and B. Davis home to take the lead 5-4.

Barlow scored off a single from Tierce to give GSW a two run advantage.

Barry scored only one in the seventh and the Lady 'Canes took a one run win.

GSW finished with seven hits, six runs and five RBIs.

Savannah Carlisle (2-0) pitched seven innings, gave up seven hit, five runs, walked two and struck out two.

The Lady 'Canes play Palm Beach Atlantic University at 11 a.m. and Nova Southeastern at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
