Tierce Hits Two More HRs In Split With Southern Wesleyan

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team is now 9-9 after splitting with Southern Wesleyan University in their doubleheader on Saturday at Lady Canes Field.

GAME 1: GSW 9, SWU 0

Hayley Tierce went 2-for-2 in Game 1 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Tierce homered in the first inning and brought in Erin Steele to start off the game and homered again in the third for one of GSW's four runs that inning.

Nikki Graham scored off a double from Rebekah Davis, Joshlyn Martin scored off a throwing error and Davis scored off a single from Allee Denney to lead 6-0.

Mikela Barlow, Graysen Sanders and Steele scored in the fifth to call the game for a run rule and win 9-0.

GSW finished with 12 hits, nine runs, eight RBIs and no errors.

Brittany Childs kept Southern Wesleyan off the scoreboard for all five innings. She had three hits, no runs, no walks and struck out four.

GAME 2: GSW 5, SWU 3

Lacy Striblin scored GSW's first run in Game 2 off an error and Southern Wesleyan tied it up the next inning.

Sanders scored off a single from Barlow to give GSW back the lead in the bottom of the second and Tierce made it 3-1 after advancing home on a throw in the third.

Southern Wesleyan tied it again off a two-run home run in the top of the fifth and scored again to take the lead.

They scored one more in the sixth and were able to hold off GSW for two innings to take a 5-3 win.

GSW finished with seven hits, three runs, one RBI and no errors.

Haley Goodson (2-2) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed eight hits, four runs, walked two and struck out four.

Kaley Sikes pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed three hits and one run.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Wednesday to play West Georgia in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
