Lady 'Canes Capture Two Wins Over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team is now 11-9 after capturing two victories over Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday at Varsity Field.

GAME 1: GSW 6, SWU 4

GSW jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mikela Barlow got things going for the Lady 'Canes with a single. A single by Joshlyn Martin then moved Barlow from first to second and Allee Denney singled, plating Barlow.

SWU scored in the bottom of the second off a double to center field. GSW responded in the third with a run from Martin off a single from Denny. Barlow scored again at the top of the fifth off a single from Haley Goodson and SWU scored in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-2.

Goodson scored at the top of the seventh to make it 4-2 and SWU hit a two-run home run to tie the game and head into extra innings.

With two outs and bases loaded Bri Lewis singled to center field and plated Lacy Striblin and Barlow.

GSW's defense held off SWU and won the game by two runs.

GSW finished with 14 hits, six runs, six RBIs and one error.

Brittany Childs (3-2) pitched eight innings and had eight hits, four runs, walked two and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 4, SWU 1

Ella Hawkins scored at the top of the first and SWU tied it in the bottom of the first.

Haley Warner scored off a single from Erin Steele to take a 2-1 lead at the top of the second and Barlow scored in the fifth to take a two-run lead for GSW.

Denny doubled to right field to bring in Martin and take a 4-1 victory for the Lady 'Canes.

GSW finished with 12 hits, four runs, four RBIs and one error.

Haley Goodson (3-5) pitched seven inning, had three hits, one run, walked one and struck out three.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Tuesday to play West Georgia in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
