Martin And Tierce Homer In Lady 'Canes Split At West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team improved to 12-10 overall after losing game one 8-4 and winning game two 5-4 against the University of West Georgia (13-7) on Tuesday at University Softball Field.

GAME 1: GSW 4, UWG 8

Joshlyn Martin started the game off with a 2 RBI home run bringing in Hayley Tierce who hit her sixth home run of the season at the top of the third to give GSW a 3-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the third West Georgia hit a double to right center and plated two. They hit another 2 RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and scored another off a triple to left field to take a 5-3 lead.

Tierce scored again off a fielding error and West Georgia scored one more in the fifth off a single up the middle and two more in the sixth off a 1 RBI triple and a single to take an 8-4 win.

GSW finished with seven hits, four runs and three RBIs.

Kaley Sikes (L, 1-2) pitched four innings, had six hits, five runs, walked two and struck out three.

Brittany Childs pitched two innings, had three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 5, UWG 4

Ella Hawkins scored in the first off a wild pitch and Tierce scored off a dropped foul ball in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

West Georgia tied it up in the bottom of the third with a 2 RBI single to right field.

Graysen Sanders scored in the fourth off a single from Hawkins, who scored off a double from Mikela Barlow to take a two run lead.

West Georgia tied it again with a 2 RBI home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Tierce was up to bat first at the top of the seventh and hit her seventh home run of the season to take the lead and win the game.

GSW finished with eight hits, five runs and three RBIs.

Haley Goodson (W, 4-5) pitched seven innings, gave up five hits, four runs, walked zero and struck out three.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Friday to play a doubleheader against Brewton-Parker College starting at 1 p.m.
