Barlow Leads Lady 'Canes To Victory

MONTEVALLO, Ala.- Mikela Barlow had a combined seven RBIs and four runs in Georgia Southwestern's softball doubleheader against Montevallo University to lead them to two wins Sunday afternoon at Orr Park.

GSW improved to 21-17 overall and 6-6 in the Peach Belt Conference while Montevallo moved to 13-20 and 3-5 in the PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 12, UM 7

The Lady 'Canes were behind early by three runs and managed to tie it up in the third with a two-run double from Barlow and a run by Ella Hawkins. The Falcons pushed across one more in the bottom of the third to take the lead back.

Freshman Hayley Tierce hit her 11th home run of the season and brought in Barlow to take a one run lead in the fifth.

Montevallo scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead again and Allee Denney tied the game in the sixth off a single from Erin Steele.

Hawkins took the lead in the seventh off a double from Joshlyn Martin and Montevallo tied it up off a double to push the game into extra innings.

Haley Warner singled to right center plating Goodson and Steele and Barlow hit a three-run home run to give GSW a five run lead.

The Lady 'Canes defense held off Montevallo to take the win.

GSW finished with 18 hits, 12 runs, 12 RBIs and one error.

Brittany Childs pitched six innings, had eight hits, seven runs, walked five and struck out three.

Kaley Sikes pitched two innings, had one hit, no runs, walked two and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 6, UM 5

Barlow put GSW on the board and Montevallo pushed four across the plate in the first and one more in the third to take a four-run lead.

In the fourth Lewis scored off a double from Graysen Sanders and Steele scored off a single from Hawkins. The Lady 'Canes scored two more runs in the sixth off a double from Barlow to tie the game. Martin scored the winning run off a fielders choice in the seventh and the Lady 'Canes took their second win.

GSW finished with 11 hits, six runs, six RBIs and no errors.

Haley Goodson pitched seven innings, had seven hits, five runs, walked two and struck out five.

The Lady 'Canes are away on Tuesday to play a non-conference doubleheader against Emmanuel College starting at 3 p.m.
