Tierce Breaks GSW Home Run Record

AMERICUS, Ga.- Freshman Hayley Tierce broke the Georgia Southwestern softball season home run record in their doubleheader loss to Lander University Saturday night at Lady 'Canes Field.

Tierce hit her 15th home run in the bottom of the fourth in Game 2 to put GSW on the board and take the record.

GSW is now 22-24 overall and 6-10 in the Peach Belt Conference while Lander University moved to 22-14 and 8-6 in the PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 3, LU 5

The Lady 'Canes took an early lead in the second when Haley Goodson scored off an error by the third baseman. Lander tied it with a single in the third and Allee Denney hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to lead 3-1.

Lander rallied and came back scoring in the fourth off a single, tied it in the fifth off a walk and pushed two more across the plate in the sixth and seventh to take the two-run win.

GSW finished with nine hits, three runs, three RBIs and one error.

Brittany Childs (L, 5-7) pitched five innings, had nine hits, three runs, walked three and struck out one.

Kaley Sikes pitched two innings, had three hits, two runs, walked two and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 3, LU 7

Lander jumped to an early 4-0 lead pushing a runner across the plate in the first and second and scoring two more in the third. 

Tierce hit a home run in the fourth to put GSW on the board and Lander hit a two-run homer in the sixth to lead by five.

Joshlyn Martin hit a double to center field to plate Mikela Barlow in bottom of the sixth and give GSW a four run deficit.

Lander scored in the top of the seventh and Goodson countered with a home run to help keep GSW's loss to four runs.

GSW finished with six hits, three runs, three RBIs and three errors.

Sikes (L, 5-3) pitched six innings, had six hits, six runs, walked two and struck out two.

Goodson pitched one inning, had two hits, one run, walked one and struck out none.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Sunday for Senior Day to play a conference doubleheader against USC Aiken starting at 2 p.m.
